How do I know if my child needs Speech and Language Therapy?
Every child’s communication journey is unique. If you feel your child is frustrated, struggling to follow instructions, or isn’t being understood by others, an assessment can provide clarity. During our free telephone call, we can discuss whether Speech and Language Therapy is the right next step.
What happens during the first appointment?
My clinic is designed to feel like a play space. While your child explores the toys, I will observe their natural communication and chat with you about their history. My goal is for your child to feel safe, recognised, and most importantly, that they’ve had fun.
Can you visit my child at their nursery or school?
Yes. It is incredibly helpful to see children where they are most comfortable. I am happy to visit Sevenoaks schools and nurseries to observe children in action and liaise with teachers or SENCOs to ensure a “whole-team” approach. This will incur an additional cost, which will be discussed and agreed with you in advance.
Do you provide EHCP assessments?
At this stage, I do not offer formal assessments specifically for the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process. My focus is on providing consistent, high-quality clinical therapy and support for children on my caseload.
What is your cancellation policy?
I understand that family life is unpredictable! I ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations. This allows me to offer the slot to another family. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice may be charged at the full rate.
Are you covered by private health insurance?
I am registered member of the HCPC and RCSLT. Please check in advance with your provider to see if my services will be covered under your policy. You may be able to claim back my fees and I am happy to provide a full receipt to make this process as simple as possible.
What is the difference between analytic and gestalt language processing?
Analytic language processors build communication from the bottom up, starting with single words (like “ball” or “juice”) and gradually combining them into phrases.
Gestalt language processors learn from the top down, capturing entire phrases or “gestalts” (such as “Time to go to the park!”) as a single unit of meaning.
Both are completely natural ways to develop language, but they require entirely different approaches during therapy.
Where do your speech therapy sessions take place in Kent?
Clinical speech and language therapy sessions take place in a calm, welcoming environment at The Mill Lane Centre in Sevenoaks. This local setting allows me to support families, toddlers, and school-aged children across the Sevenoaks district and surrounding communities.
